I first saw the nurses honor guard in Lansing and it bought tears to my eyes! I thought and felt that this was the most beautiful tribute and knew I had to be apart of something so amazing!
We all know the sacrifices we faced while attending nursing school. I had several nursing buddies that I could lean on, cry with, share laughs, and of course, hold each other accountable for our work ethic.
My dear friend Jewel was amazing. No nonsense, sweet and a heart of gold. We held tight to
each other and we always encouraged each other long after nursing school. She called me and we stayed on the phone for hours as we did because we had so much to catch up because life was busy. Somewhere in our conversation she told me the news. Our conversation was the most difficult one we had and I thought waiting to see if we passed the NCLEX was the most difficult!
She assured me not to worry, but I heard and saw her pain. My dear friend Jewel passed away and I knew I had to honor her. I reached out to Julie and asked her to help me. I also asked Jewels' husband if I can perform the service and also name our chapter after her.
We serve because we know the dedication nurses give in making sure others receive excellent care, love, laughs, and authentic genuine compassion.
